DOMMERKOMITEENS BEDØMMELSE
Dommerkomiteen finder, at forslaget på elegant vis etablerer et greb, der på én gang fungerer som langsigtet strategi for omdannelse af de særlige kvaliteter i området og samtidigt skaber et originalt, smukt og karakterfuldt byrum ved hjælp af få midler. Det er dommerkomiteens opfattelse, at Islev Identity har potentialet til at skabe et genkendeligt og unikt center på den fremtidige letbane langs Ring 3. Et nyt center, der åbner bydelens enklaver op mod et fælles rum og skaber offentligt liv i form af aktiviteter, læring, rekreation snarere end massiv kommerciel aktivitet.

Som en forstadens Decumanum Maximus kan det nye byrum samle byens skole, bibliotek, sportsfaciliteter og måske genintroducere en glemt funktion som friluftsbadet til den danske forstad. Projektets visuelle fremstilling er på en gang minimalistisk og uprætentiøs, og dommerkomiteen finder, at de enkelte bygningsmæssige forslag indskriver sig fint både i Rødovres skala og i byens historie af elegante, funktionalistiske offentlige bygninger.

Dommerkommiteen er overbevist om, at teamet bag forslaget har vist en præcis forståelse af det meget sammensatte områdes særlige potentiale. Forslaget er en robust og fleksibel strategi for den langsigtede udvikling af Islev og rummer forførende konkrete ideer, der på kort sigt kan kickstarte en udvikling af byrummet langs Islevbrovej

JURY’S ASSESMENT
The jury has decided that the proposal offers an elegant solution to the immediate remit and establishes a long term legacy for the transformation of the region’s intrinsic qualities whilst simultaneously creating an original, beautiful and charismatic urban space from few resources. The jury is convinced that Islev Identity has the potential to create a recognisable and unique space from the light rail development and along Ring 3. A new centre will develop the district’s enclaves with communal areas that will develop public life in the form of activities, education and recreation rather than excessive commercial activity.

As a suburban Decumanum Maximus, the new urban space brings together the city’s school, library and sports facilities, and reintroduces the public swimming pool to the Danish suburb. The project’s aesthetic presentation is both minimalist and unpretentious and the jury is particularly pleased that the simple architectural designs compliment both Rødovre’s scale and the city’s history of elegant and functional public buildings.

The jury is convinced that the team behind the proposal have demonstrated an astute understanding of a complex area’s unique potential. The proposal is a robust and flexible strategy for the long term development of Islev, and provides compelling, concrete ideas that can kick-start the development of the urban space along Islevbrovej.

Program
Københavns Kommune vil fortælle om konkurrenceopgaven og områdefornyelsesprojektet i Sankt Kjelds Kvarter med fokus på konkurrenceområdet. Derefter vil i gå en tur i området fra Sankt Kjelds Plads til de to byggegrunde og videre ud af radialerne til de mindre byrum, der ligger langs med radialerne.

Transport
Den tætteste station er Ryparken St. Bus nummer 6A går fra bl.a. Hovedbanegården mod Emdrup St., stå af ved Haraldsgade/Tagensvej.

Program
På skolen gives der en kort præsentation, hvor det vil være muligt at høre om Rødovre, områdets historie og baggrunden for konkurrencen. Derudover fortælles der lidt om konkurrencens indhold samt forventningerne til de indkommende forslag. Som afslutning på præsentationen vil de fremmødte få lejlighed til at stille afklarende spørgsmål.

Efter præsentationen på Islev Skole, bliver det muligt at få en guidet tur gennem området. Dette foregår til fods. Rundturen slutter på Islev Torv kl. 11:30 hvor deltagerne bliver budt på en pølse i den lokale pølsevogn.

S-tog, Linie C mod Ballerup/Frederikssund til Islev Station, herfra buslinie 12 Retning: Islev, Viemosevej.

Program
Introduktion til Allerød Kommune, præsentation af projektområdet og visioner for udbygning af området. Herefter går vi gennem Blovstrød og den sydlige del af projektområdet, med mulighed for en tur i veterantog gennem området med Blovstrødbanen. Turen slutter kl. 16. Herefter er der mulighed for at gå samlet tilbage til Allerød Station, og besigtige den vestlige del af projektområdet og forbindelsen til Lillerød Bymidte.

Transport
Bus 385 (retning Holte st.) kører fra Allerød Station til Blovstrødhallen. Alternativt kan man gå fra Allerød Station (ca. 2 km / 20 min).

Husk godt fodtøj, da dele af turen går over markerne.

Program
The municipality of Copenhagen will inform about the competition assignment and the area renewal project of Sankt Kjelds area with focus on the project site. After this, we’ll take a walk around the project site looking at Skt. Kjelds Square and the two construction fields and further along the radial streets to look at the smaller urban spaces along these.

Transport
The nearest station is Ryparken Station. Bus number 6A towards Emdrup Station leaves from the Central Station, get off at Haraldsgade/Tagensvej

Program
A short introduction to Rødovre, the history of the area and the background for the competition will be given at the school. As well as the content of the competition program and the expectations to the entries, after this participants can ask clarifying questions.

After the presentation the municipality will take you on a guided walk through the area, by foot. The tour will end at Islev Square at 11:30PM where participants will be offered sausages at the local hotdog stand.

Transport
S-train, C line towards Ballerup/Frederikssund. Get off at Islev Station, and take bus number 12 towards Islev, Viemosevej.

Program
Introduction to the municipality of Allerød and presentation of the project site and the visions for the development of the area. Walk through Blovstrød and the southern part of the project site and trip with the old veteran train ’Blovstrødbanen’ through the area. The walk finishes at approx. 4PM. After this it’s possible to continue walking together towards Allerød Station looking at the western part of the project site and the connection to the centre of Lillerød.

Transport
Bus number 385, direction Holte Station, leaves from Allerød Station towards Blovstrødhallen. Alternatively one can walk from Allerød Station, approx. 2 km / 20 min.

Bring appropriate footwear, since we’ll walk across the bare fields

Kære Europan deltagere

I dag lanceres Europan 11 og EUROPAN DENMARK er stolt af at kunne præsentere tre danske konkurrencegrunde i ALLERØD, KØBENHAVN og RØDOVRE og inviterer hermed alle arkitekter, planlæggere, landskabsarkitekter m.fl. under 40 år, til at deltage i konkurrencen og bidrage med innovative idéer og svar på de udfordringer der stilles i de tre konkurrenceprogrammer:

Hvordan kan man gentænke og udfolde forstadens potentiale i RØDOVRE og skabe en ny stærk identitet til et område, som skal danne ramme om hverdagslivet? Hvordan bliver en rundkørsel i et typisk brokvarter til en god genvej for bløde trafikanter og til et livligt byrum for dets beboere i KØBENHAVN? Og hvordan kan man nytænke parcelhuskvarteret og skabe et bæredygtigt og fleksibelt boligområde i ALLERØD, når man får mulighed for at starte helt forfra?

EUROPAN 11 sætter denne gang fokus på hvordan arkitekter og planlæggere kan være med til at skabe rammerne for en mere ansvarlig og bæredygtig levevis. Det overordnede Europan 11 tema spørger hvordan man binder byer og livsformer sammen i en større struktur således at det lokale forbindes med det globale og derigennem skaber en større bæredygtig sammenhængskraft.

Spørgsmålet til deltagerne på de danske konkurrencegrunde bliver derfor at se på hvordan arkitekturen og byrummene ser ud i hverdagsrummet i den bæredygtige by – det hverdagsrum vi alle kender og bor i.

Som inspiration hertil har vi har bedt jurymedlem, Christian Bundegaard reflektere over hverdagslivet i sit essay Hverdagsbyen som i kan læse her på sitet, hvor i også kan finde mere om de tre danske konkurrencegrunde og andre informationer om deltagelse i konkurrencen.

Dear Europan contestants

Today Europan 11 is launched and EUROPAN DENMARK is proud to present the 3 Danish sites in ALLERØD, COPENHAGEN and RØDOVRE. We would like to invite all architects, urban planners, landscape architects and more under the age of 40 to participate an bring forward your innovative ideas and response to the challenges put forward in the three competition briefs.

How can we rethink and unfold the potential of the suburb in RØDOVRE by creating a new strong identity for an area which must encompass and make space for everyday life? How can a roundabout and its radial streets in a typical city district become the good short cut for cyclists and pedestrians and also become a lively space for the local inhabitants in COPENHAGEN? And how can we rethink the structure of a classical residential living area in ALLERØD when we can start from scratch?

EUROPAN 11 puts focus on how architects and planners can contribute to the framework for a more responsible and sustainable way of life. The overall EUROPAN 11 theme asks how cities and ways of life can be tied together into a larger system in order to connect the local with the global and hence bring about a more profound sustainable cohesion between urban and territorial areas.

The question put to the contestants on the Danish sites is therefore to look at how architecture and urban spaces is presented in the everyday space in the sustainable city – that everyday space we all know and are part of. As an inspiration we asked jury member Christian Bundegaard to reflect about everyday life in his essay Everyday City which you can find elsewhere on this site, where you can also read more about the three Danish competition sites as well as how to participate in the competition.
